About This Performance
We span the English choral tradition with roots dating to 15th century England. The love of harmony has been a hallmark of English composers for 700 years, yet we rarely focus on this important heritage. The stunning Four-Part Mass by William Byrd, one of the greatest English composers of his time, is the centerpiece of this performance. John Tavener’s Song for Athene (heard during Princess Diana’s funeral), Britten’s Hymn to St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music, Missa Brevis and more round out this important musical survey. Choral aficionados, this one’s for you. Cheerio!
