Luis Castillo-Briceño

About this Artist

During the 2023/24 season Luis Castillo-Briceño was Conducting Fellow with the London Philharmonic Orchestra mentored by Principal Conductor Edward Gardner. He made his UK debut conducting the LPO at the Brighton Dome in November 2023 and performed several other concerts with the orchestra during the season.

In 2024/25 Luis will make his conducting debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Sinfonieorkester St Gallen and Philharmonie Luxembourg. He continues his relationship with the LPO assisting and conducting on their tour of the United States in October 2024.

In June 2024 Luis was named a Designate Winner at the International Conducting Competition Rotterdam and will participate in a year-long mentoring programme culminating in the competition Finals in June 2025. A semi-finalist of the German Conducting Award 2023 – which saw him conduct the WDR Sinfonieorchester and the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln – Luis has been an Equilibrium Young Artist since 2020, receiving mentoring from Barbara Hannigan.

Born in Costa Rica, Luis speaks fluent English, Spanish, French and German. A highly accomplished violinist, flutist and pianist/organist, Luis is currently pursuing a Specialized Masters in orchestral conducting at the ZHdK (Zurich) with Prof. Christoph-Mathias Mueller and Prof. Johannes Schlaefli.
